We cover our faces in surprise
place hands atop mouths
in grief and laughter,
pushing back emotions
like so many objects
from that overflowing kitchen drawer.

Tears flow and they irritate
the slow trickle on our cheeks
leaking liquid we wipe away,
hopefully before it dries.
